The Summer of Discontent: Government Should Spearhead Remedial Action to Preserve its Political Legitimacy

Since the violent incident in Yuen Long and the storming of the liaison office on 21 July, the anti-extradition bill movement has been escalated and has gone beyond the bill itself. Hong Kong has been overwhelmed with the sentiments of resentment, trepidation, and confusion. To bring the city back on track, the SAR Government must swallow its pride and take the lead in showing sincerity to address the seething public discontent and social unrest before the situation reaches the point of no return.
