Youth Volunteerism in Hong Kong

Volunteerism and youth development are two closely-intertwined subjects with many complementary elements. Volunteering brings immense benefits to both the participating youth as well as the community they serve. Given the promotion by the Government and the civil society, it is encouraging to see the soaring number of registered youth volunteers in recent years.

Against this background, this study aims to map out the landscape of youth volunteerism in Hong Kong. In particular, it categorises volunteers into three groups: ad-hoc, school / corporate, and committed, and according to their respective needs and volunteering patterns, proposes ways to boost their engagement and enlarge their impact.
