Scotland Offsite Sharing: Promoting Lifelong Learning Through Non-formal Education

Education is not just about gaining knowledge from school, but also learning other skills outside of classrooms. The latter is known as non-formal education. In Scotland, the Awards Network, founded under the auspices of the Scottish National Youth Work Strategy, encourages young people to become lifelong learner by coordinating different youth awards and their non-formal education programs. Some of these programs are recognized by the Scottish Credit and Qualification Framework, which is equivalent to the Qualification Framework in Hong Kong. This article discusses the Scottish practice and how it can be referred by our local authorities.
